Greetings, Deviant readers. Welcome to the Indie Pen Dance (late as usual), a catalogue of DeviantART's independently published authors! Show our indies some love, like their pages, pick up copies of their books.

This evening's guest of honor is P. Anastasia, Graphix-Goddess of DeviantART. Anastasia is the author of a snazztastic web serial, Gypsy Scar - fantasy with pirates! And because it is web-based, it is free to be read, and thus there is no excuse for not reading it.

Gypsy Scar is a fantasy-fiction novel being released in monthly installments. It follows two non-typical pirate wannabes named Draco and Jacques.

Draco is eventually ensnared by a terrible curse – visible in the form of a tattoo on his shoulder - that is rumored to transform him into an unspeakable evil. They enlist the help of a Truth Seer named Christine who is plagued by visions of a brutal future.
Together they travel the world. Hunted and hated by many, they cannot rest in one place for long.
In an age when one’s life teeters on the brink of death, the team must work quickly to discover the truth behind Draco’s mark.

Anastasia was kind enough to answer some questions for me about her writing. She's quite prolific!

When did you start writing?

I’ve been writing since I can remember. I think since I knew how, really. I remember winning a writing contest of some sort when I was less than 10 years old. It’s been in my blood my whole life even though neither of my parents are writers.

What author do you feel influences your writing most?

Hmm, this is a tough question. All artists tend to be motivated or inspired by someone else, but I’ve never really been one to have role models. I get a lot of inspiration from music, too. It can be very visually stimulating to a writer.

There is a quote that comes to mind. “Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson (A poet in the 1800’s)

I heard that a long time ago and it’s always been my mantra when it comes to art. I am, however, a fan of many works by Edgar Allen Poe, which may contribute to the fact that I love darker edged stories and plot twists.

You said you have quite a few other novels in the works. What are those about?

Yes, I am working on several. Some are parts of a series and some are not. One series I am writing involves magic users, dragons, mythological beasts, etc. I have another series that is exclusively about vampires living in modern time and the psychological and physiological changes in their backgrounds that have made them into what they are today.

I am also working on a Young Adult fiction series (Fluorescence) about a small group of teenagers who have been implanted with special alien DNA in an attempt to help preserve an alien species. The teens develop unique abilities from the DNA, but also must face the difficult truth that they are being hunted by another race of aliens. There is a photo manipulation in my gallery I created from the story.

Until they find us... by Graphix-Goddess

Which one is next on your writing list?

I am trying to finish Book 1 of Fluorescence because it will be shorter than my usual novels and I can seek publishing much sooner.

The "Other awesome stuff about me" space.

I’m a freelance graphic artist and have been for almost 13 years, as well as a professional voice actor on the side. I’ve done voiceovers for companies all over the world that can be heard online in commercials and on company phone trees – the kind you get when you call in and the automated message asks you to choose an option, or gives you the company hours, etc. It’s a fun part-time job!

I also lived in Japan for almost a year and once spoke Japanese quite fluently. It’s been over 6 years since I’ve used my Japanese, so I am forgetting some of it, but I still miss being in Japan. It was a wonderful experience.

I consider myself to be pretty well-rounded and well-cultured and I’m grateful for the experiences that shaped me this way. I hope the passion I have for life experiences shows in my writing and that readers will learn something from my works.
