A bloody moon rose, hungry, through the mist
to wash his crimson glow across the waves
and froth the surging whitecaps with the kiss
that sent ten thousand sailors to their graves.

Beneath that vicious moon, a sail was set –
as was the fate of some poor, hapless crew
oblivious to the impending threat
that drifted ever closer through the blue.

The moon smiled sweetly, bathing naked steel,
as cannon shuddered through the velvet night
to rend the sodden trader, hull and keel
and put an end to her frenetic flight.

The captain's grin shone redder than his sword
As he o'ersaw the booty brought aboard.
...
Lol, I said booty.

Anyway, I was at the beach the other night for the supermoon, and it came up red and fabulous. It was amazing.

I'm impressed at how easily this flowed. It almost seemed to flow in one piece from you, as though you didn't have to substitute a single line to get the rhyme you wanted.

I love, love, LOVE that first stanza. Beautiful imagery. How was the supermoon? I missed it...I even meant to set an alarm so I'd remember to take a look...but I still forgot. :(

Aww, sorry you missed it. D: It was spiffy. It was probably better from the beach. Not much light pollution, even though the humidity made it sort of blurry.

Mainly because I am "in love" with the 1st stanza and couldn't resist to be a pirate for a moment reading the rest...
I like it very much...

(Hum... still waiting for new chapters from your "Siren"... please.)

Wow, you got high imaginative levels to be inspired just by a red moon :). My inspirations need to be kicked to the front of my brain, but they disappear before I can do anything.

Anyways, that's a lovely poem :). I love pirates :iconpirateplz:

I forgot to look at the supermoon, but this piece of writing is very enjoyable! Richly descriptive and colorful, it has a slow, but steady progression of the growing peril being delivered by the bloody, vicious but sweet smiling moon. I usually view the moon as female ( the elusive consort of the sun). It was a nice change-up for me to consider the moon as a male [and males tend to be more violent]. By the end, it was clear that the moon certainly served the interest of the pirates. This was some great, and brief writing--like a nice quick piece of strawberry cheesecake!

Call me a nerd, but I've always been partial to a masculine moon since I saw the Star Trek: Next Generation episode Masks. Incidentally, that was also one of the things that got me interested in anthropology.

I did. It was almost invisible when it first came up, because of the haze. It was several degrees above the horizon when I finally noticed it, and it was literally red as blood, reflecting across the water. So amazing.

I tried! I tried, but by the time it was far enough above the horizon, I was wedged into the back of a van with fourteen or so other people, and the only view I had of it was through a condensation-fogged window, and they refused to stop and let me get out. ;;
